The director of the new Blair Witch Project reboot has been announced.
The Blair Witch Project was released in United States theaters in 1999. The found footage horror movie is directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez; it stars Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, and Michael C. Williams. The film is credited as being one of the most successful independent films of all time, as it made headlines at the time of its release because of its promotional marketing campaign.
The Blair Witch Project was followed by 2000’s Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 and 2016’s Blair Witch, while there were also comics, video games, and more that came out after the initial film. In 2024, it was officially announced that a new Blair Witch movie was in development at Lionsgate and Blumhouse.
Who is directing the new Blair Witch Project reboot movie?
First reported by scooper Daniel Richtman and then confirmed by Dread Central, the Blair Witch Project reboot movie will be directed by Dylan Clark.
Clark is an up-and-coming filmmaker who has largely made short films up until this point in his career. In December 2025, it was announced that he was turning one of these shorts, 2022’s Portrait of God, into a feature film that will be produced by Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele. A release date for that movie has not yet been set.
Plot details for the new Blair Witch Project film remain under wraps at this time.
Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson said when the project was initially announced, per The Hollywood Reporter, I have been incredibly fortunate to work with Jason many times over the years. We forged a strong relationship on The Purge when I was at Universal, and we launched STX with his film The Gift. There is no one better at this genre than the team at Blumhouse. We are thrilled to kick this partnership off with a new vision for Blair Witch that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.”
Jason Blum added, “I don’t think there would have been a Paranormal Activity had there not first been a Blair Witch, so this feels like a truly special opportunity and I’m excited to see where it leads.”
