Franchise director Gavin O’Connor has confirmed that he and writer Bill Dubuque have started developing the screenplay for The Accountant 3, with the intention of bringing back Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick. This comes after the latest sequel had finally made its theatrical debut nearly a week ago. At the moment, The Accountant 2 currently holds a Tomatometer rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is 24% higher than the 2016 movie’s current rating.

Is Anna Kendrick returning in The Accountant 3?

During a recent interview, O’Connor teased Kendrick’s potential role in The Accountant 3, revealing that the Oscar nominee is actually open to reprise her role as Dana Cummings from the 2016 movie.

“[We] have had some preliminary conversations. I am personally running from another puzzle movie, which we’ve done twice now,” O’Connor shared. “One thing we’ve talked about is the idea of bringing Anna Kendrick back. Maybe Christian can finally get the love that he deserves.”

Ben Affleck added, “We’re hoping she still likes us.” O’Connor answered him, “Actually, Ben, she and I have been texting. She said she’s a hundred percent in if we want.”

The R-rated sequel was directed by Gavin O’Connor from a screenplay written by Bill Dubuque. Daredevil: Born Again star Jon Bernthal is also leading the cast as Brax, the brother of Affleck’s character. Joining them are Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, and J.K. Simmons. It was produced by Affleck, Lynette Howell Taylor, and Mark Williams.

“In the film, Christian Wolff has a talent for solving complex problems. When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to ‘find the accountant,’ Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Bernthal), to help,” reads the official synopsis. “In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina, they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.”
