There will be a new Supergirl video releasing on Super Bowl Sunday, but likely not how fans are expecting.
Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios’ Supergirl arrives in United States theaters this summer. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie will see Milly Alcock reprise her DCU role as Supergirl after she briefly appeared near the end of James Gunn’s Superman.
What is Supergirl’s Super Bowl video?
While there won’t be a new Supergirl video premiering during the Super Bowl, Variety reports that a “tease” for the movie will be shown earlier in the day during the Puppy Bowl, which is airing on Animal Planet.
Gunn’s Superman movie did this as well; however, that video was just a recut version of a trailer that didn’t include any new footage.
The synopsis for the movie reads, “When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”
In addition to Alcock, Supergirl stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, Jason Momoa as Lobo, and Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll, among others.
Supergirl is based on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow DC miniseries by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The solicitation for the first issue reads, “Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but finds her life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. What was it all for? Wherever she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.”
Supergirl will be released on June 26, 2026.
