Cody Rhodes, who plays Guile in the upcoming Street Fighter film, recently shared new insights into the movie’s intense fight scenes and on-set experience. As production progresses under director Kitao Sakurai, Rhodes described the role as a unique challenge ahead of the film’s 2026 release.
Cody Rhodes says the Street Fighter experience was ‘really unique’
Cody Rhodes described his experience on the set of the upcoming Street Fighter film as “really, really unique.”
He plays Guile, a U.S. Air Force pilot, and stated, “I’d never been on wires,” explaining the challenges of performing Guile’s iconic moves. Referencing the “flash kick,” Rhodes said, “If it’s in that movie, I wanted to get a shot at the flash kick. And I’d watched [Jean-Claude] Van Damme do it from the old school Street Fighter.”
Rhodes recalled being grouped with Roman Reigns and others coming from outside industries. “All of us get there… we’re all from outside worlds and coming in, leaders in our field,” he said. “They had us all sit down… and we watched a sizzle reel of an edit they had already made. I felt like I was on a Little League sports team… Kitao [Sakurai], the director, that’s my coach.”
He emphasized the intensity of the project. “They’re asking us, ‘Hey, look at what we’ve made in three weeks. Step up, guys.’ I felt like I was ready to run through a brick wall,” Rhodes said. He also revealed a scene featuring several characters gathering at a “big centrepiece” halfway through the film.
Director Kitao Sakurai sets Street Fighter in 1993, following estranged fighters Ryu and Ken as they reunite for the World Warrior Tournament. Cody Rhodes joins the cast alongside Andrew Koji (Ryu), Noah Centineo (Ken), Callina Liang (Chun-Li), Roman Reigns (Akuma), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Balrog), and Andrew Schulz (Dan Hibiki). Rhodes said, “The cast… they were there early. They were really looking into everything, breaking down these scenes… but taking it incredibly seriously.”
The film will release in theaters on October 16, 2026.
