The long-awaited live-action Street Fighter movie has thrown its first punch, as a teaser trailer debuted at The Game Awards 2025.
Street Fighter live-action movie debuts sneak peek teaser at Game Awards 2025
Geoff Keighley premiered the first official teaser for the Street Fighter movie at The Game Awards 2025. The audience got their earliest look at Chun-Li, Ken, Ryu, and the full roster in action.
Moments later, the film’s large cast came on the stage, confirming widespread rumors and adding their own flair to the reveal. Andrew Schulz, who plays Dan Hibiki, jokingly told the audience that the Mortal Kombat 2 cast would also appear onstage, before quickly clarifying he was kidding by saying, “They only care about the money.” The playful jab kept the longstanding rivalry between Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat alive in good humor. The 45-second teaser trailer wastes no time, offering a rapid-fire introduction to the Street Fighter movie’s impressive lineup. The visuals promise a direct translation from arcade cabinet to cinema. Each character’s costume and demeanor appeared to be taken directly from the game’s origins. The action snippets feel impactful, culminating in a gloriously over-the-top shot of a car being demolished. It seems like a nod to one of the franchise’s most iconic mini-games.
According to the official synopsis, the film is set in 1993. “Estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s game over!” (via Variety)
Kitao Sakurai serves as the director, with the script by Dalan Musson. The cast further includes Orville Peck, 50 Cent, Jason Momoa, David Dastmalchian, and more. The Street Fighter movie is releasing on October 16, 2026.
