In the build-up to the ultimate installment of Netflix’s Stranger Things, filmmaker Shawn Levy has shared his review of the final episode of the upcoming Season 5. Levy, who has been an executive producer of the series since 2016, revealed in a recent interview that he had already watched the last episode of the fan-favorite sci-fi thriller series, going as far as to give it a “10 out of 10 perfect” rating.
Shawn Levy says final episode of Stranger Things Season 5 ‘is a masterpiece’
The Deadpool & Wolverine director bestowed heavy praise upon the concluding episode of Stranger Things Season 5, stating that it left him wrecked.
“Having watched the final version of the final episode of the final season of Stranger Things, it is a masterpiece,” Shawn Levy remarked while speaking to Collider’s Steve Weintraub. He then added, “The Duffers have stuck that landing. So 10 out of 10 perfect. And I know it sounds like I’m kind of promoting my own show, but this is really said with just deference and tremendous respect to Matt and Ross, who wrote and directed that finale episode. And it is so deeply satisfying and moving. I have to say, it wrecked me.”
The Canada-born filmmaker then doubled down on his appreciation for Stranger Things Season 5’s final episode by noting that it thoroughly deserves to premiere on the big screen. “That episode — like, when was a series finale in movie theaters? What a singular, beautiful, rare thing that is. It’s because this series, and that episode in particular, really earned that right. And I think it deserves it,” he marveled.
Notably, Shawn Levy has directed the third and fourth episodes of each of the show’s four seasons so far. However, due to his commitment to 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, he had to settle for helming the sixth episode and half of the seventh episode this time out.
The first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 will premiere on Netflix on November 26, with the subsequent three episodes following suit on December 25. Meanwhile, the feature-length eighth and final episode of the show will come out in select theaters and on Netflix on December 31.
