The Stranger Things Season 5 finale has sparked a wave of online debate, with fans pointing out narrative gaps. In the days following the episode’s release, three specific complaints have surfaced as the common points of criticism.

Stranger Things Season 5 fans are complaining about Dr. Kay
Stranger Things finale concluded its long-running story with high-stakes action and emotional closure for many of its core characters. However, viewers have raised concerns about several unresolved narrative threads in the series finale.
Fans have voiced frustration over the treatment of Dr. Kay, the antagonist portrayed by Linda Hamilton, arguing that her storyline was left unresolved. Introduced as a new threat in the final season, Dr. Kay played a prominent role throughout Season 5, particularly in her pursuit of Eleven. However, during the climax, Dr. Kay is largely sidelined. Her presence fades into the background during key moments, including Eleven’s decision to seal herself inside the Upside Down.
As the episode jumps ahead 18 months, the aftermath sees the Upside Down catastrophe publicly dismissed as an earthquake. Meanwhile, Dr. Kay and her forces disappear entirely from the narrative. One person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Most pointless character in TV history award goes to… Dr. Kay.”
Fans questioned why creatures such as Demodogs, Demogorgons, and Demobats were absent in the final confrontation, noting that Vecna and the Mind Flayer appeared alone. One social media user asked, “Where were the demogorgons, demobats and demodogs……….?” Another added, “The Duffer Brothers kind of forgot about the demogorgons.”
Others also expressed confusion over Max’s ability to graduate with her classmates despite spending so much time in coma. One user questioned, “Max was in a coma for two years—so how did she graduate?” Another wrote, “The concept of max graduating with everyone else despite being in a coma for 2 years.”
Stranger Things season 5 finale premiered on December 31, 2025.
