Rebecca Quin, best known to WWE fans as Becky Lynch, has stepped into the Star Trek universe with her official debut look revealed ahead of Starfleet Academy’s premiere. The wrestler-turned-actress appears in full Starfleet attire as part of the upcoming Paramount+ spin-off series set in the 32nd Century.
First look at Becky Lynch revealed in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
In an exclusive first look released by Collider, Quin appears as a Starfleet officer in Operations Gold, part of the bridge crew, with a bob haircut featuring blue streaks. The image does not indicate that her character is of any non-human species.
The series follows the first post-Burn class at the Starfleet Academy in the 32nd Century and stars Holly Hunter as Captain Ake, who also serves as Chancellor. Returning characters include Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Jett Reno (Tig Notaro), Charles Vance (Oded Fehr), and the Doctor (Robert Picardo). Newcomers joining the franchise are Stephen Colbert, Bella Shepard, Zoë Steiner, George Hawkins, Karim Diane, Paul Giamatti, Tatiana Maslany, and Kerrice Brooks.
Reflecting on her childhood experience with the franchise, Quin said, “I grew up when Star Trek was one of the two shows that was on TV in Ireland, on whatever four channels we had, so it was always on in the background. I can’t say that I sat down and watched, but I did love the movies. And Colm Meaney. We all love Colm Meaney, any time he was on, you sit down and watch that.” She also described the filming experience: “I’m on the bridge crew, and filming on the bridge, it was one of the most amazing sets I’ve ever been on.”
Colm Meaney portrayed Miles O’Brien, who served as Chief Engineer on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He was previously seen on The Next Generation as well. A trailer shot hints at the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Captain Benjamin Sisko from the DS9 finale. This continues the show’s connection to earlier Star Trek series.
