Kristine Belson has broken silence on two of the most talked-about Spider-Verse spin-offs. In a new interview, the Sony Pictures Animation president revealed that both Spider-Punk and Spider-Gwen movies are officially in active development.
Kristine Belson confirms Spider-Punk and Spider-Gwen movies
Kristine Belson has confirmed that development is underway for both Spider-Punk and Spider-Gwen spin-off films from the Spider-Verse franchise. When asked about the status of these projects, Belson stated, “I’m not allowed to say. But we are active on both.”
The confirmation came during a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter in which Sony Pictures Animation presidents Kristine Belson and Damien de Froberville discussed current and future projects. While Belson did not share further details about the teams or writers involved, the statement affirms active development of the two Spider-Verse spin-offs.
Belson and de Froberville also addressed the ongoing production of Beyond the Spider-Verse, currently in animation. De Froberville said the visual design “is really blowing my mind,” and Belson added, “I keep thinking about it too.” The film will follow up on the success of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023).
In the same interview, Belson acknowledged that Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the creative leads on the franchise, continue to send notes despite working on Project Hail Mary. De Froberville explained that they changed the animation pipeline to reduce late-stage iterations and added, “We brought on a live-action DP, Alice Brooks,” to help direct camera work early in the story process.
Sony Pictures Animation is also moving forward with GOAT, a theatrical film scheduled for release on February 13. Steph Curry is producing the film, which features Caleb McLaughlin. Belson and de Froberville confirmed the sequel to KPop Demon Hunters will not be ready before 2029.
When asked about the timeline, Belson pointed to her nose, signaling agreement with the speculation. The gesture was described as: “She places her pointer finger to her nose, to indicate that’s correct thinking.”
