Spider-Man 4’s Sadie Sink possibly debunks playing Jean Grey in MCU
Sadie Sink has addressed long-standing fan speculation regarding her potential casting as Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “That was happening before I even knew that I would be working on this project,” she clarified. “I was like, ‘Wait! What are people talking about?’” Sink explained that conversations with Marvel began while she was filming Stranger Things Season 5, indicating the rumors predated any actual involvement with the studio.
Sadie Sink is currently filming a mystery role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in London. Marvel Studios has not confirmed her character and continues to take active measures to conceal her identity. Paparazzi photos captured her in a full-body puffer jacket, hiding her costume. “Tom can wave at the fans because people know who he is, but then you get a glimpse of me and I’m like a penguin,” Sink told Entertainment Weekly.
Other fan theories suggest Sink could be playing Punisher ally Rachel Cole-Alves or another red-haired Marvel character. Responding to these, Sink remarked, “A lot of people forget that hair color can change, but, yeah, I understand all of the theories.” Despite the online speculation, she has since stopped engaging with fan theories. “People will just have to wait and see,” she said. “I’m excited for all of it to maybe be put to rest.”
While known for her breakout role as Max Mayfield on Stranger Things, Sink is also returning to the stage. She will portray Juliet in Romeo & Juliet in London’s West End. Sink recently received her first Tony Award nomination for her role in John Proctor Is the Villain. She continues to expand her acting career across film, television, and theater.
