FX has shared a brand new Shōgun Season 2 update for the highly-anticipated next installment to the award-winning epic drama. This comes after Season 1 successfully scored 18 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyuki Sanada, and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Anna Sawai.

What was FX’s Shōgun Season 2 update?

Production on Shōgun Season 2 has now been scheduled to begin in January 2026 in Vancouver, after nearly two years since the first installment concluded its 10-episode run on FX and Hulu. A few plot details about Season 2 have also been revealed, confirming that story will be “a wholly original new chapter to the first season. (As the next installment) continues the historically-inspired saga of the two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.” It is expected to take place a decade after the events of the Season 1 finale.

FX has also announced that Warfare’s Cosmo Jarvis will be reprising his role as English pilot John Blackthorne in Season 2. He will be joining previously confirmed cast member Hiroyuki Sanada, who will be returning as Lord Yoshii Toranaga. In addition, both Sanada and Jarvis have also signed on as an executive producers.

Shōgun is created by Rachel Kondo and showrunner Justin Marks, based on James Clavell’s bestselling novel. Season 1 also featured Anna Sawai as Toda Mariko, Tadanobu Asano as Kashigi Yabushige, Hiroto Kanai as Kashigi Omi, Takehiro Hira as Ishido Kazunari, Moeka Hoshi as Usami Fuji, Tokuma Nishioka as Toda Hiromatsu, Shinnosuke Abe as Toda Hirokatsu (Buntaro), Yuki Kura as Yoshii Nagakado, and Fumi Nikaido as Ochiba No Kata (Lady Ochiba). The show is executive produced by Marks, Kondo, Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell, and Michael De Luca. It hails from FX Productions.
