A notable update on Shōgun‘s future has dropped, indicating the Season 2 release date window. The news focuses on the show’s production timeline and has sparked renewed anticipation among fans.

Shōgun Season 2 begins filming as per schedule

Hulu has started production on the second season of Shōgun, bringing the historical epic back into active development nearly two years after its debut. The series, headlined by Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis, was originally designed as a single season adapting James Clavell’s novel in full. However, strong audience response prompted Hulu to order both a second and third season.

Filming is now underway in Vancouver and is expected to continue for approximately six months. Local media outlets have reported that both Sanada and Jarvis are already shooting new scenes. Moreover, images circulating online show expansive period sets currently in use. The start of production follows earlier reports from November 2025, which indicated that shooting was scheduled to begin in January 2026.

Plot details for the upcoming season remain strictly confidential. Since the first season completed Clavell’s narrative, the upcoming episodes will follow an original storyline developed by the returning writing team led by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks. Additional information about season 2 is expected once production progresses.

The second season is also expanding its ensemble. Newly announced cast members include Masataka Kubota as Hyūga, Jun Kunimura as Gōda, and Sho Kaneta as Hidenobu. Asami Kizukawa as Aya and Takaaki Enoki as Lord Ito are other notable additions. Returning performers include Shinnosuke Abe, Yuko Miyamoto, Fumi Nikaidô, Eita Okuno, Yuka Kouri, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy Bastow, and Hiroto Kanai.

As of now, Shōgun Season 2’s release date has not yet been announced. The series could arrive in late 2026 if post production moves quickly, though a 2027 release is also possible.
