After Shifting Gears premiered its Season 2 fall finale episode, viewers are wondering if Jenna Elfman’s Eve is leaving the show for good. Since she was one of the central characters and Matt’s love interest, the revelation near the end of the episode hints at her departure from the show.

Is Jenna Elfman’s Eve leaving Shifting Gears after Season 2 fall finale?

Shifting Gears is a sitcom starring Tim Allen as Matt Parker and Kat Dennings as his daughter Riley, who moves back home with her kids after a divorce. The show has prominently featured Matt’s progressing relationship with a nearby shop owner, Eve, played by Jenna Elfman. However, after the fall finale, fans are sad that she might be leaving the show. But is she really, though?

The fall finale, “Nutcracker,” featured a heartbreaking scene where Eve talks about leaving the country for a while to be a choreographer for a K-pop band. This comes right after Matt proposed his love for her. To his dismay, this excitement is short-lived. While the two have had a great relationship throughout the season, the revelation leaves him heartbroken, ultimately leading to their breakup. And despite the sad news, he offers his support.

So, does this mean Eve has said her final goodbyes? Here’s what is known: Eve, at one point, tells Matt that she may come back to town once in a while. This opens the possibility that Eve could return. She might return in a future season, if not in the second part of this one. Furthermore, there is currently no official word from the actress or the showrunner about the character leaving.

Instead, Michelle Nader, the showrunner, recently hinted that the on-screen couple will have a turbulent relationship. “I will say that it is really interesting to watch them,” Nader told US Weekly. “It’s interesting to watch their relationship develop, and so they’re going to go into high gear — but it’s going to be a little bit of a roller-coaster.”

So, it is reasonable to assume that Jenna Elfman will reprise as Eve Drake in Shifting Gears. The next episode will air after the holidays, on January 7, 2026, on Hulu.
