ComingSoon is debuting an exclusive trailer for Modern Whore, Quiver Distribution’s upcoming documentary from director Nicole Bazuin and subject Andrea Werhun. It is executive produced by Anora director Sean Baker, who worked with Werhun on his Oscar-winning film. Following its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, the movie will be available to rent or own on digital platforms starting on May 1, 2026.
“The film is a hybrid documentary that reimagines popular depictions of sex work through the lived experiences of writer, performer, and sex worker, Andrea Werhun. Andrea grapples with social stigma and reclaims her narrative in a series of funny, heartbreaking, and surprising stories,” reads the official synopsis.

What happens in the Modern Whore trailer?
The video introduces Andrea Werhun, who introduces herself as a writer, performer, and sex worker. The trailer highlights her experience with having a provocative profession, including the personal struggles she faced. Besides Werhun, the trailer also teases interviews from other sex workers as they discuss the social stigma and dangers that come with the job. Through the film, Werhun hopes to break stereotypes by giving a new perspective on the controversial profession.
Modern Whore is directed by Nicole Bazuin, who co-wrote the screenplay with Werhun based on the latter’s 2018 memoir of the same name. It is described as “part-documentary, part-reenactment, the charismatic and vulnerable Werhun tells her story, starting with how she became an escort, eventually transitioning into working in a strip club, the trials and tribulations of the industry, and draws from numerous personal experiences to break stigmatization.”
Following the critical success of 2024’s Anora, Baker signed on as an executive producer. Werhun also served as a consultant on the Oscar-winning movie. Executive producers also include Amir Endalah, Mark Gringas, Terry King, Alex Kingsmill, John Laing, Martha Loewen, Berry Meyerowitz, Jeff Sackman, Justin Stockman, and James J. Yi. It is also produced by Werhun, Bazuin, and Lauren Grant.
