A popular 2009 movie starring Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson is getting turned into a television series.
Peacock is set to reimagine the 2009 romantic comedy Bride Wars — this time for the small screen. The project is now in development, and is written and executive produced by Emmy Award winner Sascha Rothchild (Huge in France, GLOW).
Who’s starring in the Bride Wars TV adaptation?
Emma Roberts will be starring in the planned Bride Wars series adaptation, and is also set to executive produce the project. Per Deadline, Roberts will be taking on the wedding planner role, who will soon find herself competing against a fellow wedding planner. The plot description reads as follows:
“Set against the charming backdrop of North Carolina, Bride Wars, the TV series, follows a big-city wedding planner (Emma Roberts) whose arrival in a small town sparks an epic showdown with a beloved local planner. As the two women battle to plan the same wedding, their rivalry quickly escalates into a larger clash over friendship, community, and, ultimately, love.”
Roberts is known for a number of movies and television roles, most notably in titles like Aquamarine, Valentine’s Day, Scream 4, We’re the Millers, Palo Alto, Space Cadet, Scream Queens, and various seasons of American Horror Story (Freak Show, Apocalypse, 1984, and Delicate).
The original Bride Wars starred Hathaway as Emma and Hudson as Liv, portraying two childhood best friends who turn into rivals after accidentally booking their weddings on the same day at the same venue. For the series adaptation, instead of pitting two brides against each other, the story will revolve around two wedding planners battling to organize the same event.
The show’s executive producers include New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann; Belletrist’s Roberts, Karah Preiss, and Matt Matruski; and Crescent Line’s Alexandra Milchan and Martin Salgo.
Other details about the project have yet to be announced.
