Kevin Williamson and Neve Campbell are already planning Scream 8
Kevin Williamson recently shared that he and Neve Campbell have started discussing an eighth installment in the film series.
While speaking to Deadline at Scream 7’s world premiere, Williamson said that he and Campbell had started “spit-balling” what a potential eighth film would be about. He added that the actress had a “great idea” for a follow-up, which creatives were onboard with. “So yeah, if this movie works and people want it, we’re here for the fans. So, if they want it, we’ll certainly give it to them,” he further stated.
According to Variety, insiders have suggested that plans for an eighth film are in place.
Unverified rumors have also suggested that Scream 7 will launch a new trilogy. When asked about these rumors in an interview, Williamson said that whether a trilogy will happen or not “remains to be seen.” He then said that discussions about a trilogy would take place if people went and saw the new film.
Recently, Neve Campbell acknowledged a theory surrounding a potential Ghostface suspect that could be realized in an eighth movie. In an interview, The Lincoln Lawyer actress agreed with the theory that Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers was incredibly suspicious as she showed up around the same time as the masked serial killer.
Meanwhile, Scream 7 is scheduled to release in theaters across the United States on February 27, 2026. Early reactions to the film are divided, with some praising the film’s style and others criticizing it.
Kevin Williamson directed the film and also wrote its screenplay with Guy Busick, who co-wrote the story with James Vanderbilt. The seventh movie’s story once again follows Sidney Prescott as she is forced to reckon with her dark past after Ghostface re-enters her life and targets her daughter, Tatum.
