A release date for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark director André Øvredal’s next horror movie has been set.
Øvredal is a Norwegian filmmaker who made the beloved Trollhunter movie in 2010. After that, he went on to make The Autopsy of Jane Doe in 22016 before tackling Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark in 2019. Since that movie, he then made Mortal in 2020 and The Last Voyage of the Demeter in 2023.
What is the release date for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’s André Øvredal’s next horror movie?
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Øvredal’s next horror movie is titled Passenger. It will be released in United States theaters on May 29, 2026, by Paramount Pictures.
Plot details for Passenger — which is not to be confused with the 2016 movie Passengers starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, or the 2008 movie that is also titled Passengers starring Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson — remain under wraps at this time. Øvredal’s movie stars Jacob Scipio (Maintenance Required, Bad Boys: Ride or Die), Lou Llobell (Foundation, Voyagers), and Melissa Leo (The Equalizer 3, The Fighter).
The only other movie that is currently scheduled to be released on May 29 is Stop! That! Train! That film, which is being released by Bleecker Street, is an Adam Shankman-directed action-comedy that stars RuPaul Charles of Drag Race fame. Having said that, Disney and Lucasfilm are opening The Mandalorian and Grogu the week before, May 22, while Amazon MGM Studios and Travis Knight’s highly anticipated Masters of the Universe movie arrives the week after, on June 5.
Annabelle Comes Home’s Gary Dauberman is producing Passenger for his Coin Operated banner, while Walter Hamada is also producing for 18Hx.
There have been talks about a sequel to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, though no release date has been set at this time. It was also reported in 2024 that Øvredal is attached to direct a feature film adaptation of the Bendy and the Ink Machine video game.
