A new update has been given on the status of Savannah Guthrie’s spot on NBC’s Today Show, including an idea as to when the anchor may be ready to return to the show.
What is the latest Savannah Guthrie Today show return update?
In a recent report from Variety on the ongoing situation at NBC, it’s noted that Guthrie, who has been away from the Today Show since her mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing on January 31, 2026, remains with her family as the search for Nancy is still underway.
Hoda Kotb, who is a longtime veteran Today Show co-anchor, has rejoined the show in Guthrie’s absence and is hosting the show alongside Craig Melvin. Variety notes that Guthrie is expected to return to the show at some point, but that it’ll be on her own timeline and could require a “significant period” to do so.
Savannah has been away from her duties as anchor as the search for her mother, Nancy, continues. Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her home on February 1, 2026, after being dropped off at her home in Tucson the night before. In a video posted to Instagram this week, Savannah, who has worked as the main co-anchor of the NBC News morning show Today since 2012, asked fans and anyone else watching for help or information if they had it.
“We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help,” said Guthrie (via Deadline). “She was taken, and we don’t know where, and we need your help. So I’m coming on just to ask you, not just for your prayers, but no matter where you are, even if you’re far from Tucson, if you see anything, you hear anything, if there’s anything at all that seems strange to you, that you report to law enforcement.”
Earlier this month, the FBI released footage from Nancy’s home doorbell cameras showing what they believe to be a suspect in the case. In it, a man can be seen at the door of Nancy’s home, covered up in a jacket and mask. Savannah Guthrie and her family have also offered up a $1 million reward for any information that may be leading to her recovery.
