Netflix subscribers can now watch one of HBO‘s popular original animated shows, which features the voices of The Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. As of today, all three seasons of The Ricky Gervais Show are now officially available to stream on Netflix.
What do we know about HBO’s The Ricky Gervais Show?
The Ricky Gervais Show was an animated version of Gervais and Merchant’s popular audio podcast and audiobooks, featuring friend and colleague Karl Pilkington, who served as a producer on the comedic duo’s XFM radio show. The Hanna-Barbera cartoon-like TV show featured past audio recordings of the trio’s hilarious conversations about various topics. It lasted for three seasons from 2010 to 2012, comprising 39 episodes. At the moment, the animated series holds a 93% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant returned to XFM, the alternative London-based radio station, in September 2001 after the first series of The Office had been broadcast. Due to the phenomenal success of the show, Ricky was important enough to now be given his own producer, one Karl Pilkington,” reads the show’s logline. “Although Karl was hired to just ‘press the buttons,’ Ricky and Steve got him involved more and more with the show over the subsequent weeks and soon became fascinated with his personal life, unconventional childhood, and ridiculous stories. By the end of the first season, Karl had become a crucial part of the show’s success.”
Besides The Ricky Gervais Show, subscribers can also watch several of Gervais’ works on Netflix, including his stand-up specials and the hit comedy-drama show After Life. The latter also lasted for three seasons from 2020 to 2022. It received an average approval rating of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, Gervais is working on his next collaboration with Netflix, an adult-animated series titled Alley Cats, which is expected to debut sometime in 2026.
