Ranbir Kapoor steps into one of Indian mythology’s most iconic roles as Ramayana drops its first major trailer, giving audiences a grand preview of the upcoming epic backed by a massive cast and global-scale production.
Ramayana unveils new trailer featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama
The newly released trailer offers a detailed first look at Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, showing him in multiple phases of the character’s journey. In one moment, he appears in royal attire, showered by flowers. In another, he wears simple bark clothing (valkal), reflecting his exile. The visuals also include a scene of him battling an ogre in a forest and a calmer moment near a waterfall.
The story setup is clear from the footage. Rama’s exile unfolds alongside Sai Pallavi as Sita and Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana. The trailer also teases the looming threat of Yash as Ravana, shown from behind along with his Pushpak Vimana, hinting at Sita’s eventual abduction.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film adapts Valmiki’s ancient Sanskrit epic on a massive scale. It is produced by Prime Focus Studios along with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations. The project also features a strong ensemble, including Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari.
Music is another major highlight. The score brings together two global names, Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. The film is designed as a two-part release, with Part 1 arriving during Diwali 2026 and Part 2 following in Diwali 2027, both shot for IMAX screens (via Variety).
The plot follows Rama’s journey after exile, leading to Sita’s abduction by Ravana and the eventual war between good and evil. Part 1 is expected to build up to that moment, while the sequel will focus on the rescue and final battle that shook the cosmos.
With its scale, cast, and mythology roots, Ramayana is shaping up as one of the biggest Indian films in recent years, aiming to bring a timeless story to a global audience. Earlier, Om Raut attempted to bring the Ramayana to the big screen with Adipurush, but the film failed to connect with audiences and drew strong criticism from viewers.
