In a surprise turn of events, Rian Johnson’s crime-comedy drama series Poker Face has been canceled at Peacock, but a strange reboot could also be in the works.
What Poker Face reboot could happen?
According to a new report from Variety, Peacock has decided to cancel the series, which saw its second season end in a cliffhanger of sorts. Despite the cancellation, though, both Johnson and star Nataha Lyonne are looking to keep the show going in a unique way.
Variety’s report notes that the pair are shopping a new version of Poker Face, led by Peter Dinklage, to companies. The report notes that Johnson and Lyonne are looking for a two-season order from a distributor, with the plan being to swap out a new actor “every two seasons.”
No word on what the new version of Poker Face would look like, but in a statement on the move, both Lyonne (who would stay on as an executive producer) and Johnson said the pair were hoping to see the show again.
“We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale. We love our Poker Face and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling,” the pair’s statement read. “Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.”
Alongside Lyonne, Season 2 of Poker Face also featured a litany of high-profile guest stars, including Alia Shawkat, Awkwafina, Ben Marshall, B.J. Novak, Carol Kane, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Corey Hawkins, Cynthia Erivo, David Krumholtz, Davionte “GaTa” Ganter, Ego Nwodim, Gaby Hoffmann, Giancarlo Esposito, Haley Joel Osment, Jason Ritter, John Cho, John Mulaney, Justin Theroux, Kathrine Narducci, Katie Holmes, Kevin Corrigan, Kumail Nanjiani, Margo Martindale, Melanie Lynskey, Patti Harrison, Sam Richardson, Sherry Cola, and Simon Rex.
“The series is a mystery-of-the-week series following Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie, who has an extraordinary ability to determine when someone is lying,” reads the Season 2 logline. “This season, Charlie continues her journey on the road across the country, encountering a new cast of characters and investigating crimes along the way.”
Since its debut in 2023, the series received a near-perfect Tomatometer rating of 98% based on 114 reviews.
