Disney‘s long-rumored Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has finally received an interesting update, teasing the next main character for the blockbuster franchise. The studio has been trying to revive the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise for a long while now, with Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie previously attached to lead a rumored spin-off.
Who is writing Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
According to Jeff Sneider, Disney’s newly appointed CEO, Josh D’Amaro, and president Dana Walden are reportedly prioritizing the revival of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The insider claimed that Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917) is said to be in talks with the studio to write the screenplay for Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
In addition, he also revealed that the reboot might potentially center around Jack Sparrow’s son and a female lead character. The latter is expected to be played by Robbie, who was originally meant to lead a Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off. Disney is reportedly looking to “create an original, iconic character, one envisioned as a punk-rock cross between Jack Sparrow and Emma Stone’s Cruella de Vil.”
Last year, it was reported that the studio was looking to bring back Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow in the sixth installment for a supporting role. At the moment, it’s still unclear if this is still the studio’s plan. The new phase of the franchise will still be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who previously confirmed that they won’t move forward with the sequel if they don’t get the script right. Before Wilson-Cairns’ involvement, franchise writer Ted Elliot had contributed to the latest draft of the reboot’s script.
“We’re working on a script,” Bruckheimer said. “If we don’t have it on the page, it’s not gonna get on the screen. We had two scripts at one point, and then one kind of dropped out, and we kind of went with the other one.”
