With Fox’s Baywatch reboot continuing to take shape, one of the stars from the original series has offered an update regarding their return. In a recent interview, Carmen Electra, who essayed Lani McKenzie in the original series, addressed her involvement in the reboot while also offering suggestions about how she could factor into it.
Carmen Electra on if she will be in Fox’s Baywatch reboot
Approached at the airport, the Scary Movie star was asked about her involvement in Fox’s Baywatch reboot. She responded, “I don’t know,” before saying she was having discussions with the creatives involved about the same.
However, Carmen Electra expressed interest in appearing in the reboot, telling TMZ, “It could be fun.” While she expressed her disinterest in filming scenes in the water, she acknowledged that she could still do her iconic slow-motion run as Lani McKenzie from the original series. Electra added, “I can definitely do that. And I still look really good in that suit, so that is not a problem… Maybe I could be a captain.”
The actress-model subsequently explained her aversion to filming water scenes. She clarified that while she “[loved] being around the ocean, working in it [was] very different.” The 53-year-old described shooting scenes in the ocean as a “very complicated” process.
Notably, discussions about Fox’s Baywatch reboot surfaced in 2018, after Deadline reported that FremantleMedia was considering the series. Five years later, the outlet shared that the production company had begun work on the television show.
In 2024, Lara Olsen reportedly joined as writer and showrunner. However, Matt Nix, known for creating Burn Notice, later assumed triple duty as creator, executive producer, and showrunner. Eventually, in 2025, Fox gave a 12-episode order to the reboot, expected to drop during the 2026-27 television season.
Moreover, in January 2026, McG or Joseph McGinty Nichol, known for 2000’s Charlie’s Angels, joined the crew as the director of the first episode and executive producer. Around this time, it was reported that the reboot was holding an open casting call. The casting call will take place at Marina Del Rey Marriott in Marina del Rey, California, on February 18, 2026.
As per the official website, the casting call is free. However, only actors 18 and above, authorized to work in the United States, can audition for starring, recurring, and guest roles. Further, actors must also wear attire suitable for a beach setting.
