Paramount has set the release date for Get Lite, the directorial debut of One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor. Taylor, who has earned an Oscar nod for her performance as Perfidia Beverly Hills in Paul Anderson’s film, is directing Get Lite from a script by Eric Gross. Euphoria star Storm Reid will also reportedly be playing a major role in the movie.
Get Lite gets a release date
Get Lite is scheduled to premiere in theaters on April 9, 2027. As well as starring, Storm Reid is producing the movie with Kenya Barris and Anni Weisband of Khalabo Ink Society, Bill Karesh of Offbrnd, and Robyn Simpson of A Seed & Wings Productions, which is Reid’s production banner. Additionally, Taylor will serve as an executive producer on the feature (via Variety).
Get Lite revolves around a headstrong dance student who finds love, inspiration, and more in the subways of New York City. During a December 2025 interview, Taylor discussed the project. “It’s so crazy, because when [Get Lite] came across my desk, it was like a full-circle moment,” she explained. “I had already directed pretty much every single artist. And I noticed with my work that I was ready to move on to television and film. All my music videos have a narrative. It’s always a drama. You get so much good s— in just two minutes. I’m like, ‘I need more time'” (via Screen Daily).
Get Lite reportedly explores a real-life street movement, sometimes known as Litefeet, that came out of Harlem. Taylor shared that she became part of the movement when she was 14, and it kept her out of trouble and safe. Accordingly, when she came across the project, “It was an instant yes” even before she read the screenplay.
Reflecting on her ambition for Get Lite, Taylor stated she wanted the movie to be part of a broader conversation.
Notably, Taylor has previously directed music videos for herself and Queen Naija, among others.
