Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated fantasy epic, The Odyssey, may be months away from its theatrical release date, but the movie’s first review has already come out. In a recent discussion, Jonathan Nolan, the brother and frequent collaborator of The Dark Knight director, provided his assessment of the upcoming Matt Damon-led drama, stating that it was a “tremendous” watch for him.
Jonathan Nolan says The Odyssey ‘is a spectacular film’
During a recent sit-down, the younger Nolan sibling shared his review of The Odyssey, which is still five months away from hitting the theaters.
“I’m not working on The Odyssey,” Jonathan Nolan noted to CinemaBlend, before adding, “I have seen The Odyssey. It’s tremendous. It’s an incredible achievement. I was fascinated by The Iliad and The Odyssey when I was younger, and I had some fun conversations with Chris about where he’s taking it. It’s a spectacular film.”
When asked if he had watched the entirety of his brother’s forthcoming directorial feature, the Westworld co-creator replied, “I’m not sure I’m supposed to say that, but yes, it’s tremendous.”
Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey serves as an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic of the same name and follows the journey of the Greek king Odysseus (Matt Damon). After the conclusion of the Trojan War, he decides to return to his wife and son in his kingdom of Ithaca. However, in order to reunite with his family, Odysseus must face a host of mythical threats and triumph over every hurdle in his perilous journey.
Aside from Damon, who leads the proceedings as King Odysseus, The Odyssey boasts a star-studded supporting cast. The additional lineup features Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Mia Goth, and Travis Scott, among others.
The Odyssey will premiere in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026.
