Prime Video has unveiled the release date and first photos for Scarpetta, the upcoming crime series starring Nicole Kidman.
When is the Scarpetta release date?
Scarpetta will premiere on March 11, 2026.
The crime thriller is presented across two timelines. Kidman plays Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner who is “determined to serve as the voice of the victims, unmask a serial killer, and prove that her career-making case from 28 years prior isn’t also her undoing.”
“This dual narrative explores Kay Scarpetta’s journey from her beginnings as a chief medical examiner in the late ’90s to her present-day return to her hometown, where she resumes her former position while investigating a grisly murder. As Scarpetta pursues justice, she must navigate complicated relationships, including the fraught dynamic with her sister, Dorothy Farinelli, confront long-held professional and personal grudges, and face secrets that threaten to unravel everything she’s built.”

Besides Kidman, Scarpetta stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Dorothy Farinelli, Bobby Cannavale as Detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker as FBI profiler Benton Wesley, and Ariana DeBose as Kay’s tech-savvy niece, Lucy Watson.
The actors playing younger versions of the characters in the past timeline include Rosy McEwen as Scarpetta, Amanda Righetti as Farinelli, Jake Cannavale as Marino, and Hunter Parrish as Wesley.
Scarpetta is developed and written for television by Liz Sarnoff, the co-creator of Alcatraz and a writer on HBO’s Barry. Scarpetta is a forensic crime thriller series based on Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling Kay Scarpetta book series. To date, the book series has amassed 120 million copies sold worldwide.
Executive producers include Sarnoff, Kidman, Curtis, Cornwell, Per Saari, Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie, Chris McCumber, David Gordon Green, and Amy Sayres. Green directed five episodes.
Scarpetta is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television in association with Blossom Films, Comet Pictures, and P&S Projects.
