Nicolas Cage and acclaimed filmmaker John Woo are reuniting with one another for a brand new movie.
What movie are Nicolas Cage and John Woo teaming up for?
According to a new report from Deadline, Cage will star in the upcoming crime biopic, Gambino, about the New York crime kingpin Carlo Gambino. Woo will direct the movie from a script by George Gallo and Nick Vallelonga, with the project going up for sales this week at the American Film Market.
The movie will chronicle the life of Gambino, “a butcher’s son from Sicily, who rules New York’s underworld with quiet authority. But when his death sends shockwaves through the city, Pulitzer-winning journalist Jimmy Breslin follows the trail he left behind to uncover the man beneath the legend,” reads the synopsis for the film. “Through the voices of those who loved him and those who feared him, Breslin peels back the composure that masked Gambino’s ruthlessness, revealing how this outsider rose to redefine power, loyalty and the American dream.”
Carlo Gambino was the leader of the Gambino crime family and played a major role in the world of organized crime from around 1959-1976. The Gambino crime family became one of the most notorious crime families in the world, taking part in various crimes like racketeering, gambling, loansharking, extortion, money laundering, and more.
Cage and Woo are also no strangers to working together, having paired up for the iconic 1997 film Face/Off, which Cage starred in alongside John Travolta. Woo’s latest film, 2024’s The Killer, released last year. It was a remake of his 1989 film of the same name. Cage’s last project was 2025’s The Carpenter’s Son, a psychological horror film telling the story of Jesus, and is out tomorrow.
