Netflix has announced that Tyler Perry‘s new TV show about firefighters is now in production.
Tyler Lepley headlines Where There’s Smoke as Owen. Lepley is best known for playing Ian on Harlem, a Prime Video comedy series. Lepley previously worked with Perry on two 2025 movies: Duplicity and Ruth & Boaz.

Where There’s Smoke also stars Mike Merrill (Straw) as Cameron, Da’Vinchi (All American) as Noah, Eltony Williams (Designated Survivor) as Jermaine, Brock O’Hurn (Euphoria) as Ethan, Joe Hunter (Survivor) as Chief Bailey, Karen Obilom (House Party) as Laura, Brittany S. Hall (Ballers) as Angela, Mariah Goodie (Be Someone) as Rhonda, Jordan Rodriguez (Here Comes the Flood) as Brent, and Judi Moon (What Love Will Make You Do) as Darcy.
Netflix revealed the first photo from the production in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Netflix logline reads, “Where There’s Smoke follows the lives of a group of firefighters as they navigate the intense challenges of their high-stakes profession while grappling with personal struggles, fractured relationships, and the emotional toll of saving lives in a world filled with danger, drama, and heartbreak.”
Perry, Angi Bones, and Tony Strickland will produce for Tyler Perry Studios. Where There’s Smoke will consist of 16 episodes.
Where There’s Smoke is the latest collaboration between Perry and Netflix. Beauty in Black, a drama about two women from opposite sides of the track, recently received a renewal for a third and final season. Perry’s other show, Miss Governor, premiered in 2025.
Since 2020, Perry has directed and produced several movies for Netflix, including A Fall from Grace, A Madea Homecoming, A Jazzman’s Blues, Mea Culpa, The Six Triple Eight, Straw, and Madea’s Destination Wedding. Perry’s most recent directorial effort, Joe’s College Road Trip, was released on Netflix last month.
