As anticipation builds for Pixar’s latest original feature, early reviews have brought Hoppers into focus. Strong critical reactions and a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score have quickly positioned it among the studio’s most talked-about recent releases.

What critics are saying about Hoppers in reviews

Critics describe Hoppers as energetic, inventive, and emotionally grounded. Kristen Lopez of The Film Maven wrote, “Hoppers is one of the best Pixar movies in recent years, though the script does feel slight in character motivations. However, the delightful voice cast led by Curda and Moynihan are great, and the movie is at its best when it’s weird.”

Jonathan Sim of ComingSoon.net wrote, “The result is a wacky, heartfelt, surprisingly dark adventure that reminds you why Pixar can make almost any premise work.” He also stated, “The animation is gorgeous throughout,” and called the film “strange, funny, visually stunning, and unexpectedly dark in its final stretch.”

John Nugent of Empire Magazine stated, “Don’t call it a comeback — but this is really strong stuff from Pixar: funny, thoughtful, sweet, making for a heartfelt paean to nature, and beavers in particular. Dam good.” Nell Minow of RogerEbert.com wrote, “‘Hoppers’ is Pixar at its best, a story with warmth, humor, exciting action, endearing characters, and a reassuringly expansive notion of community.”

Other reviews note tonal ambition and thematic scope. Tim Grierson of Screen International wrote, “Sometimes the convoluted story forces its emotional beats, but Hoppers is a largely successful animation that introduces a refreshingly darker strain of humour alongside its paeans to the natural world.”

Eli Friedberg of Slant Magazine offered a dissenting view, stating, “It falls well short of providing any satisfying exploration of its weighty theme of persuasion versus violence in the face of oppression.”

Hoppers gets an incredible score on Rotten Tomatoes

On Rotten Tomatoes, Hoppers holds a 97% Tomatometer score based on 69 reviews. The film is listed in the Kids & Family, Comedy, Adventure, and Animation categories. It has a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes and a theatrical release date of March 6, 2026.

The 97% score places Hoppers alongside other Pixar titles with the same rating, including Coco, which was released in 2017, and The Incredibles. Rotten Tomatoes has not posted an audience score, but more than 100 verified users have rated it on the Popcornmeter.
