Donald Glover has broken his silence on one of TV’s most beloved revival projects. The actor and creator addressed lingering questions about the long-awaited Community movie. He offered fans the clearest signal yet that their patience may finally be rewarded.

Donald Glover shares an update on Community movie

Donald Glover confirmed the long-awaited Community movie is actively in development. “We’re working on it right now,” Glover told Entertainment Tonight. “I know everybody’s been saying that for forever, but I swear to you, I’m not lying about this. I really think that something is gonna happen soon.”

Glover revealed the cast maintains an active group chat about the project. He and his former co-stars “were just on the text chain talking about it,” describing the chat as “pretty lovey dovey,” but noting, “when you’re on the other side of the world, you will wake up to 83 messages.”

Peacock officially ordered the feature in 2022 and confirmed the return of Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong. Yvette Nicole Brown also confirmed her return in October 2024, noting the script was “being reworked” to include her character Shirley (via Deadline).

Dan Harmon wrote the movie with former show writer Andrew Guest. In 2024, authorities announced it as one of 19 projects benefiting from $51.6 million in California film and TV tax credits. The original sitcom ran six seasons on NBC and Yahoo Screen from 2009 to 2015.

Joel McHale previously addressed the movie’s delay directly. He told GQ that fans “can fully blame my schedule,” pushing back against speculation that Glover’s commitments held up production. Harmon and Guest continue actively developing the script, with the core cast fully confirmed and ready to return to Greendale Community College.

The Community movie now moves forward with its core cast intact and an active script in development.
