Netflix is preparing to remove a Tom Cruise–led science fiction film from its U.S. catalog in the coming weeks. The departure has drawn attention as the platform continues its regular rotation of licensed titles, with several notable films scheduled to exit soon.
Tom Cruise-led Oblivion is leaving Netflix after January
Netflix will remove the Tom Cruise–led science fiction film Oblivion from its U.S. catalog at the end of January. The platform has scheduled the title to depart on February 1, 2026. What’s on Netflix confirmed the removal in its early overview of titles leaving the service in February 2026.
Netflix lists Tom Cruise’s Oblivion among dozens of films exiting the service on February 1, 2026. Other departing titles include Groundhog Day, The Terminator, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Netflix has stated that removals may change due to licensing agreements. The company also noted that departure dates can vary by region. The platform typically updates its removal schedule at the start of each calendar month.
Universal Pictures released Oblivion in 2013 as a post-apocalyptic science fiction film directed by Joseph Kosinski. The cast includes Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Melissa Leo in key supporting roles. The story centers on a maintenance technician assigned to a devastated Earth who begins to question his mission and his identity.
The production carried a reported budget of $120 million and generated $287.9 million in worldwide box office revenue across international theatrical markets. Critics delivered mixed responses, resulting in a 53% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while Metacritic assigned the film a score of 54 out of 100.
Netflix has not announced any plans to bring Oblivion back to its streaming platform. The company handles licensing renewals and extensions individually for each licensed film.
