Netflix is set to remake a French thriller from 2021, with the streaming platform already finding a director for the project.
What movie is Netflix remaking?
According to a report from Deadline, Netflix has acquired the rights to the film Black Box, which released in 2021, and plans to remake the movie with Tim Fehlbaum (September 5) as the director.
The original movie was directed by Yann Gozlan, and followed the story of a “NTSB black box analyst, who after being assigned to investigate the aftermath of a catastrophic plane crash, uncovers chilling audio anomalies that no one else seems willing to acknowledge. As he digs deeper for the truth, he provokes powerful forces determined to silence him before he exposes a shocking conspiracy,” according to the film’s description.
Currently, no casting information has been talked about for the film. It’s unclear when the movie will be releasing, as the report didn’t note when it might release or even begin filming.
The new film will be produced by 1.21’s Andrew Mittman, as well as Wassim Beji, Thibault Gast, and Matthias Weber. Kai Dolbashian is executive producing the film. Fehlbaum’s latest film, September 5, was released in January 2025, and starred Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin, and Leonie Benesch. The film was nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar at the 97th Academy Awards.
The original Black Box starred Pierre Niney, Lou de Laâge, and André Dussollier. The film holds a positive rating amongst critics, having earned a stellar 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes since its premiere.
