What we're looking forward to hit theaters most in 2026. The post Most Anticipated Horror Movies of 2026 (Updated: March 2026) appeared first on ComingSoon.net - Movie Trailers, TV & Streaming News, and More.

Last year was a pretty interesting one for horror. We had films like Weapons, 28 Years Later, Sinners (which took home four of its record-breaking 16 Oscar nominations), Bring Her Back, and Companion. This coming year is already shaping up to be another great one for one of our favorite genres. Here are some of the most anticipated horror movies of 2026.
What are the most anticipated horror movies of 2026?
2026 has already started with a handful of horror films, most notably 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. While we were excited for Scream 7, we correctly assumed it wouldn’t be one of the year’s best, even with Kevin Williamson at the helm. Meanwhile, The Bride! — directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and starring newly anointed Oscar-winner Jessie Buckley opposite Christian Bale — is currently in theaters with polarizing reviews, which is usually a pretty good indicator that it’s a film you should check out for yourself.
Aside from these picks, we’re also particularly excited for Resident Evil (directed by Zach Creggers) and Clayface (directed by James Watkins with Mike Flanagan writing the script).
Undertone (March)
This one definitely qualifies as an indie. The cast is mostly relative newcomers, and the creative team isn’t well known. It first played the festival circuit in 2025, but it’s recently been re-released by A24 in select theaters, with a wider rollout expected toward late March. Expect a slower pace with this one — you’ll need to lean in and listen. The film reportedly puts a heavy emphasis on sound and atmosphere, making it the kind of horror that creeps up on you rather than overwhelming you with jump scares.
As for the plot, Undertone follows Evangeline, a podcast host who is living with her comatose mother. She and her friend run a paranormal podcast, though Evangeline tends to believe most of the stories they cover are hoaxes, while Justin is convinced the supernatural might be real. Evangeline is about to be in for quite a journey, however, when a young couple sends her audio recordings of what they claim is a paranormal encounter — recordings that begin to subvert everything she thinks she knows about the unknown.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (March)
Well, the end of the first Ready or Not was so incredibly satisfying in all of its explosive glory. Unfortunately for our heroine, Grace has more to contend with in this follow-up, where she finds out that the first night was just the beginning. In this next round, her sister Faith is by her side, and the two have to survive and claim the high seat of the council that controls the world. This one looks like it’s going to be a fun time. Plus, the iconic scream-queen Sarah Michelle Gellar joins the cast, as well as Elijah Wood.
Obsession (May)
We are so ready (are we, though?) for whatever this is. It’s hot off the festival circuit, holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and is already earning a reputation as one of the most disturbing indies of the year. We also have to hand it to smaller films—this one was made on a $1 million budget — for generating this much word-of-mouth, which usually points to something worth getting excited about.
The premise is…interesting, to say the least. A man makes a wish for a beautiful woman to fall in love with him, but, as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for. Expect a lot of violence with this one. Apparently, they had to cut multiple head-smash shots just to get the film out of NC-17 territory and into a perfectly respectable R rating.
Hokum (May)
From the studio behind Weapons, Hokum tells the story of a reclusive novelist (Adam Scott) who travels to Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes. Remote Irish inns already feel like the perfect setting for unsettling tales, and things only grow darker when we find out a witch is haunting the place. Written and directed by Irish horror filmmaker Damien McCarthy, the mind behind Oddity (2024) and Caveat (2020), Hokum could easily become one of 2026’s most spine-tingling horror experiences.
Werwulf (December)
For another horror take that doesn’t necessarily promise outright scares so much as a folkloric epic, Robert Eggers takes us back to 13th-century Europe, where a mysterious creature is wreaking havoc. Along with directing, Eggers co-wrote the script with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón, continuing their long-standing collaboration.
Werwulf is also set to reunite Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe, who previously worked together on Nosferatu. Jarin Blaschke returns as cinematographer, with choreography by Gabrielle Marie-Roti. While not much else is known at this point, it’s safe to assume this will be a meticulously crafted visual feast — very much in Eggers’ wheelhouse.
How we picked the most anticipated horror movies of 2026
We opted for an array of horror films from the genre, ranging from supernatural slow burns and survivalist films to serial killers, folkloric epics, and stylized pop-gothic adaptations. There are plenty more to keep our eyes on in 2026, but these are just the few that we’re most excited for, although they may not be getting the most buzz quite yet.
