Former Aquaman actor Jason Momoa may have served as the main antagonist in 2023’s Fast X, but latest revelations confirm that Jamie Foxx could have portrayed the big bad of the tenth installment in the long-running action thriller franchise. According to the contents of a recently published book, the Vin Diesel-led film series was set to cast the Spider-Man: No Way Home actor in a negative role, but ultimately failed to bring the idea to reality.
Jamie Foxx could have been Fast X’s final boss villain
Barry Hertz, the award-winning Chief Film Critic for The Globe and Mail, has disclosed in his book, Welcome to the Family, that the makers of 2021’s F9 had initially written a post-credits scene “with the hope of featuring Jamie Foxx as a new villain” (via ScreenRant).
Daniel Casey, who co-wrote the script for F9, noted in Hertz’s account, “We wrote post-credit button scenes for quite a few different characters in F9, including actors that we hoped would play the villains in Fast 10—people who weren’t even in these movies, who you just hoped to see. I think we wrote eight different buttons for F9 until going with the one with Jason Statham.”
Hertz’s book, however, does not convey whether any concrete discussions were held regarding Foxx’s recruitment in the Fast and Furious franchise. Moreover, the acclaimed film journalist’s book also fails to mention who Foxx would’ve portrayed if his initiation had gone through. Considering Hertz’s claims about the Academy Award-winning actor potentially embodying a negative part in the franchise, he could’ve replaced Jason Momoa as the primary villain of Fast X.
Notably, Momoa played Dante Reyes, the son of Fast Five’s villain, Hernan Reyes, in the movie. Given Foxx’s age and ethnicity, it is likely that his envisioned character for Fast X would have varied from Momoa’s part, which could’ve given fans a completely different antagonist than Dante.
