A24’s Marty Supreme is set to release later this month, and early reviews for the film point to it being one of the best movies in Timothée Chalamet‘s career so far.
What are Marty Supreme reviews saying?
Over on Rotten Tomatoes, Marty Supreme debuted to a stupendous 96% rating. Should the number hold, it would be Chalamet’s second-highest scoring movie on the review aggregator. His highest to date is 2017’s Lady Bird, which holds a 99% rating. As far as solo starring efforts, though, Marty Supreme would land as Chalamet’s highest-scoring film where he is the main star.
IndieWire’s David Ehrlich praised Chalamet in the film, saying that he “makes one of the most colossal movie performances of the 21st century seem as natural as a lay-up.” Variety’s Peter Debruge also calls it the “defining performance” of Chalamet’s career, praising the film as one that “makes you want to believe in this instantly iconic character too . . . even if sometimes you also want to strangle him.”
The Daily Beast’s Nick Schager also praised the movie, calling it a “breakneck rollercoaster — about ping pong! — infused with a manic desperation that’s almost as electric as its athletic centerpieces are taut.” JoBlo’s Movie Network’s Chris Bumbray called it “the movie of the year,” and said it “does for ping pong what Over the Top does for arm-wrestling (that’s a good thing).” ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim also praised the movie, calling it Chalamet’s best performance yet.
Marty Supreme is directed by Uncut Gems co-director Josh Safdie, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bronstein. The film stars Chalamet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, Sandra Bernhard, Spenser Granese, Philippe Petit, Luke Manley, and more.
Marty Supreme is set to release on December 25, 2025.
