Martin Scorsese‘s daughter, Francesca Scorsese, is making headlines after addressing her “nepo baby” privileges in a new interview. The daughter of the legendary filmmaker reflected on how her family background has shaped her opportunities. Her remarks have sparked renewed discussion on social media.
Francesca Scorsese on landing the Fox Nation directing opportunity
Francesca Scorsese is speaking candidly about how she came to direct an episode of Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints, the new docudrama now streaming on Fox Nation. The filmmaker acknowledges that her connection to her father played a direct role in securing the job.
In her interview with Variety, Francesca Scorsese was direct about how the opportunity reached her. She said, “I got this, obviously, because my dad was overseeing everything as the executive producer.” She added that she views the chance to direct the series’ final episode as a privilege. “I’m not going to deny anything. I’m honored to be given an opportunity like this, and I’m going to do my best,” Francesca noted.
The series, executive-produced and narrated by Martin Scorsese, explores the lives of major figures in Catholic history. The episode Francesca directed focuses on Carlo Acutis, popularly referred to as the “Millennial Saint.”
Questions surrounding her involvement have also drawn attention to the fact that the project is hosted on Fox Nation, given the network’s right-wing political inclination. Francesca admitted she initially hesitated when approached to direct an episode. She added, “I know how my dad feels with everything… I feel pretty much the same way as he does in terms of politics and everything, and I look up to him, and I really follow in his footsteps a lot of the time.”
Despite her concerns, she said the platform’s early support for the docudrama was ultimately a decisive factor. According to her, Fox Nation was the only outlet that backed the project from the beginning. She added, “I think there’s something to say about that.”
