The Peacock streaming release date for Liam Neeson’s iconic action movie is set for next month. The film not only achieved commercial success but also spawned several sequels and a television series.
Taken starts streaming on Peacock very soon
The streaming date for the 2008 action thriller Taken is March 1, 2026.
The movie follows Bryan Mills, a former CIA operative who tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter, Kim. However, when his daughter travels to Paris with a friend, someone kidnaps her. Using his “particular set of skills,” Bryan attempts to track down the criminals responsible.
The cast includes Liam Neeson as Bryan, Maggie Grace as Kim, Famke Janssen as Lenny, Leland Orser as Sam Gilroy, and Jon Gries as Mark Casey, among others. Pierre Morel directed the movie, while Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen served as the lead writers.
During a 2009 interview with ComingSoon, the director revealed that Besson pitched the idea over a casual dinner. And after learning that Neeson was going to star in the project, he “immediately” said yes.
“I liked this kind of script, it’s very simple, and it’s also something that appeals to everybody, I think,” the District B13 director added. “I am a father myself, a younger father, but I am a father, and I know the only thing that everybody would prize is that if someone touches your kids, you will violently react immediately.”
Morel was not the only one excited for Taken. Neeson accepted it because he was looking for a project that required “more physical stuff.” Although he thought it would go “straight to video,” he was “stunned” with the initial response (via GQ).
Furthermore, to secure a PG-13 rating, the filmmakers censored the film, making 54 cuts. The uncut version, titled Taken (Single-Disc Extended Edition), was later released on home media in 2009.
Meanwhile, the theatrical version received plenty of appreciation. Taken currently has a 85% user rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, it ended its theatrical run with a global earnings of more than $226 million. The Taken trilogy as a whole made more than $932 million at the box office (via The Numbers).
