In a recent interview, Kevin Spacey reportedly opened up about his difficult living situation following the sexual assault allegations made against him. However, in a new social media post, the Academy Award-winning actor clarified several misinterpreted details from that interview. While thanking his fans for reaching out, Spacey also took the opportunity to share the truth about his situation directly with them.
Kevin Spacey says he isn’t ‘homeless in the colloquial sense’
After stating in an interview with The Telegraph that due to high legal costs and a lack of work he had “very little coming in and everything going out,” Spacey took to Instagram to offer clarification. “I don’t usually make it my business to correct the media. If I did, I wouldn’t have time for much else,” the actor said in the video post. “But in light of the recent articles claiming I’m homeless, I feel the need to respond,” he added.
“Not to the press,” the Baby Driver actor continued, “but to the thousands of people who have reached out over the past few days, offering me a place to stay, or simply asking if I’m okay.” He said he was truly touched by their generosity, adding a “full stop” to emphasize the point. He then noted, “It would be disingenuous of me to allow you to believe that I am indeed homeless in the colloquial sense.”
Addressing journalist Mick Brown, who conducted the Telegraph interview, Spacey said, “I told him I was basically living in hotels and Airbnbs and going where the work is, just as I did when I first started out in this business.”
Spacey went on to explain, “There are many people, as we all know, who are actually living on the streets, in their cars, or in terrible financial situations, and my heart goes out to them. But it’s clear from the article itself that I am not one of them, nor was I attempting to say that I was.”
