Johnny Depp made a heartfelt comeback to Japan after eight years, lighting up Tokyo Comic-Con 2025 and reuniting with his die-hard fans. At 62, the actor-director was met by thousands of cheering admirers, reflecting on the love and support that had carried him through both career highs and personal battles. Depp also promoted his graphic novel HYDE and attended the Japanese premiere of Modi: Three Days on the Wings of Madness.
What did Johnny Depp said about his Japan trip?
Johnny Depp made a big splash at Tokyo Comic-Con at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center, meeting over 3,000 fans across two days. He also stayed late into the night to greet everyone. A source told People that Depp was deeply moved by the overwhelming support, noting how much he appreciated all the fans who have stood by him over the years.
It was his first trip back to Japan after eight years, and despite the time away, the love from fans remained as strong as ever. Depp wasn’t just greeted with cheers. He got some epic gifts, too. At his panel, the actor received a custom artwork of his legendary Captain Jack Sparrow, reimagined in One Piece anime style by creator Eiichiro Oda.
A source shared, “Tokyo has always held a special place in Johnny’s heart. He’s very much enjoyed his stay and can’t wait to return.” While in Japan, Depp promoted his dark graphic novel series HYDE, putting his own likeness on the title character, inspired by Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
He also attended his art show, A Bunch of Stuff, and premiered his self-directed film Modi: Three Days on the Wings of Madness. The Japan trip came right after he visited Argentina, where he was honored with the Key to the City of Buenos Aires.
Looking ahead to 2026, Depp is keeping busy. He’ll be seen alongside Penélope Cruz in Day Drinker, rekindling the on-screen magic they’ve built in hits like Blow and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. He’s also set to star in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol alongside Ian McKellen.
