Netflix has shared a new trailer for Detective Hole, the upcoming crime drama led by Tobias Santelmann. Based on Jo Nesbø’s popular Harry Hole novels, the nine-episode show is scheduled to start streaming on March 26, 2026.
“Underneath the surface, this series is a nuanced character drama about two police officers – and supposed colleagues – operating on opposite sides of the law. Throughout the season, Harry goes head-to-head with his long-time adversary and corrupt detective Tom Waaler,” reads the official synopsis. “Harry is a brilliant but tormented homicide detective who struggles with his demons. As the two navigate the blurred ethical lines of the criminal justice system, Harry must do all he can to catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it is too late.”

What happens in Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole trailer?
The video introduces The Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman as Tom Waaler, who is a corrupt cop and the titular anti-hero’s long-time nemesis. The trailer teases what to expect from Detective Harry Hole’s case, which involves catching a serial killer. It also offers a glimpse of how Tom Waaler is connected to Harry’s case.
In an interview with Tudum, Kinnaman opened up about playing Waaler, which he described as “an exciting challenge.”
“Filming in Oslo, the city so deeply woven into Jo Nesbø’s novels, brings an authenticity to the series that’s impossible to replicate,” The Silent Night star said. “Collaborating closely with Jo to explore this darker side of Harry’s world has been a rewarding creative experience, and I’m so proud to help bring this story to the screen.”
Detective Hole is created and written by Nesbø, based on his 2003 novel The Devil’s Star, which served as the fifth installment of the Harry Hole novel series. It is executive-produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Amelia Granger, Katy Rozelle, Rene Ezra, Øystein Karlsen, Nesbø, and Niclas Salomonsson. Karlsen and Anna Zackrisson are also serving as directors, with Tor Arne Øvrebø set as a producer. It is a production by Universal International Studios and Working Title.
The ensemble cast of the Norwegian drama also includes Pia Tjelta, Ellen Helinder, Anders Baasmo, Maxime Baune Bochud, Kåre Conradi, Simon J. Berger, Peter Stormare, Fridtjov Såheim, Eili Harboe, Atle Antonsen, Manish Sharma, Jesper Christensen, Kristoffer Joner, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Linn Skåber, Jonas Strand Gravli, Sonny Lindberg, Agnes Kittelsen, Nader Khademi, Agot Sendstad, Maja Christiansen, Frank Kjosås, Kelly Gale, Oddgeir Thune, Ravdeep Singh Bajwa, Henrik Mestad, Ingar Helge Gimle, Henriette Steenstrup, Helge Jordal, Eirik Hallert, Anders Danielsen Lie, Ane Dahl Torp and Dagny.
