A Jean-Claude Van Damme time-travel movie will be leaving Netflix next month. Based on an anthology comic series of the same name, published by Dark Horse Comics, Timecop was later followed by a TV series, a sequel, a video game, and a novel.

Timecop is leaving Netflix in March

The 1994 sci-fi movie Timecop is leaving Netflix on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).

Peter Hyams directed the movie from a script written by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden. The film is based on Richardson and Verheiden’s three-part anthology series, Time Cop: A Man Out of Time, published by Dark Horse Comics between August and October 1992.

The movie stars Van Damme in the lead role alongside Mia Sara, Ron Silver, Bruce McGill, Gloria Reuben, Scott Lawrence, and Scott Bellis, among others. Furthermore, Sam Raimi serves as one of the producers.

The story is set in a world where time travel is possible and is closely monitored by the Time Enforcement Commission (TEC) to prevent anyone from altering the past. It follows Max Walker (Van Damme), a TEC officer and a grieving widower, as he investigates crimes involving illegal time travel. He soon learns that a corrupt senator is seeking to alter the past for his own gain.

Timecop received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, earning 43% and 39% approval ratings, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this, it was a box office success, earning nearly $102 million worldwide. It was also Van Damme’s highest-grossing movie at the time.

Following the film’s success, S. D. Perry adapted the story into a novel in 1994. Later, a side-scrolling video game was developed in collaboration with Cryo Interactive for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was followed by a nine-episode television series that aired on ABC from 1997 to 1998. And in 2003, a sequel titled Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision was released directly to DVD.

Universal Pictures announced that a reboot was in development in 2013, but the project never materialized.
