The first trailer for DC’s Supergirl finally gave fans a clear look at Jason Momoa’s transformation into the alien bounty hunter Lobo, and the actor’s own reaction was pitch-perfect fan service.
How did Jason Momoa react to Lobo in Supergirl trailer?
Jason Momoa has officially traded his Aquaman trident for Lobo’s hook and chain. Following the release of the first trailer for Supergirl, which stars Milly Alcock as the titular hero, Momoa took to Instagram to celebrate his villainous debut. This moment marks a major pivot for the actor, who previously portrayed Arthur Curry in the former DCEU but is now unleashed as the brutal, intergalactic anti-hero.
Shortly after the Supergirl trailer debuted, he posted a still of his Lobo from the footage to his Instagram Stories. Momoa captioned the image with a line ripped straight from the comics: “Lobo, I am the main man. Fraggin finally.”

Momoa’s casting as Lobo has been a long time coming. When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, they immediately met with Momoa to discuss a new role. The actor revealed in a New York Times story in 2022 that Lobo was the character he had always wanted to play. “Do you know who I want you to play?” Momoa recalled being asked at the time, to which he replied, “Lobo. A long-haired, cigar-smoking, motorcycle-riding alien bounty hunter from the DC Comics universe.” That early aspiration eventually shaped his Aquaman casting as well.
While the trailer gave a thrilling first look, audiences should temper expectations for Lobo’s screen time in Supergirl. The film adapts the Woman of Tomorrow comic, a story in which Lobo does not originally appear. The main antagonist is actually Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts.
With Supergirl releasing on June 26, 2026, under director Craig Gillespie, Momoa enters the DCU not as a hero, but as one of the franchise’s most infamous cosmic threats.
