The hype around Jason Bateman’s upcoming crime-comedy on Netflix has started to pick up pace, especially following the recent update regarding the filming schedule of the film. Titled The Cackling of the Dodos, the movie has now received a production briefing, which provides a useful insight into its possible release date window.
The Cackling of the Dodos filming update hints at a 2027 release date
According to a renowned cinema-centric media outlet, the shooting of the Jason Bateman-helmed Netflix comedy has been scheduled to commence on June 1, 2026.
Issue 1496 of Production Weekly has claimed that The Cackling of the Dodos will start filming in New Jersey from June, with plans to wrap up the phase by July 12, 2026. While the report does not provide an official release date for the movie, its suggested filming schedule indicates that the feature could premiere sometime in 2027.
Directed by Bateman, the highly anticipated Netflix crime-comedy will follow a small-town farmer named George, whose life turns upside down when he comes across a corpse in a grain bin. When his boss, Denny, spins a chaotic and messy cover-up story to hide the crime, George has to reluctantly agree to become a part of the façade.
While The Cackling of the Dodos has yet to divulge information regarding its entire cast, the Netflix project will see Venom: Let There Be Carnage star Woody Harrelson and Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell occupy the leading roles. Although the exact nature of their roles continues to remain under wraps, one will certainly take up the role of George, with the other playing Denny.
Moreover, Rye Curtis of Norma Jeane fame has penned the script for the Netflix comedy, with Jason Bateman taking up the directorial responsibilities. More details about the project will likely arrive as production begins.
