James Gunn has debunked a DCU Wonder Woman casting rumor.
Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU kicked off at Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos shows. Other DCU projects like Gunn’s Superman movie and Peacemaker Season 2 were released in 2025, while 2026 will offer DC fans Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface.
It’s known that a DCU Wonder Woman movie is in development; though, not much is known about the project at this point, other than that the script is being written by Ana Nogueira. Some have speculated that Diana may first make her DCU debut in Man of Tomorrow, which will be released in 2027 and serves as a follow-up to Superman, but whether or not this proves out to be true remains to be seen.
What Wonder Woman casting rumor did James Gunn debunk?
On Threads, Gunn debunked a rumor stating that a casting announcement for the DCU’s Wonder Woman will be made in January 2026. Gunn simply replied, “Nope” to the post shared by DCU Central.
The DCU Wonder Woman movie does not have a release date at this time.
Man of Tomorrow arrives on July 9, 2027. The film is once again being directed by Gunn, and it will see David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprise their respective roles as Superman and Lex Luthor. Superman and Lex will have to work together to face a larger threat in Man of Tomorrow; this threat will seemingly be Brainiac, as it has been announced that Lars Eidinger will play the antagonist in the movie.
The Man of Tomorrow movie will also seemingly play into the Peacemaker Season 2 cliffhanger, as the latest episode of that series revealed Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. plans to round up metahumans and send them to a prison planet called Salvation. Grillo’s casting in Man of Tomorrow has already been confirmed, though it’s not yet clear if John Cena will also reprise his role.
