Hasbro has teamed up with Amazon MGM Studios and Chernin Entertainment to bring one of its most popular board games to the big screen.
Per Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios has officially started developing the film adaptation of The Game of Life. It will be based on Hasbro’s classic board game, four decades after the toy company acquired the game from its original creator, the Milton Bradley Company.
What do we know about Hasbro’s The Game of Life movie?
The Game of Life movie will be directed by Sean Anders, best known for his directorial work on comedies such as Horrible Bosses 2, Daddy’s Home, and Instant Family. The Switch scribe Allan Loeb has also been tapped to pen the screenplay. According to the outlet, Loeb was the one who helped Chernin and Hasbro figure out the right story for the movie, which is reportedly now a “big priority” for Amazon MGM Studios. Further details about the adaptation’s plot and characters are still under wraps.
The project will be produced by Anders and John Morris, alongside Peter Chernin and David Ready for Chernin Entertainment, and Zev Foreman for Hasbro Entertainment. Cyrus Warner and Alex Jacobson have also signed on to oversee the film for Hasbro Entertainment.
Originally called The Checkered Game of Life, the board game was created by Milton Bradley in 1860. The first version was released with a checkered pattern design. After 100 years, Reuben Klamer redesigned the board into the modern 3D version we all know today, which includes a spinner and car pieces. The game allows players to simulate a person’s life from early adulthood to retirement, where they navigate careers, relationships, and unexpected twists.
