When is the How to Train Your Dragon live-action coming out?
The live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie is set to grace theaters on June 13, 2025, with the second movie — confirmed back in April — scheduled to release on June 11, 2027. The movie is directed by Dean DeBlois, the filmmaker behind DreamWorks Animation’s acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.
The live-action remake is loosely based on Cressida Cowell’s children’s book series. It stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast, Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut, Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut, Ruth Codd as Phlegma, and more.
Similar to the animated movie, the remake will revolve around Hiccup’s journey to tame the extremely dangerous yet playful dragon named Toothless.
“On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society,” the synopsis reads.
It added, “With the fierce and ambitious Astrid and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding. As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.”
How to Train Your Dragon hits theaters on June 13.
