A Marvel Cinematic Universe film has become a huge streaming success on HBO Max after arriving on the platform and expanding its audience reach. Thanks to strong viewership, Spider-Man: Homecoming has managed to rank highly on streaming analytics charts. Notably, the film hit theaters in 2017, one year after Spider-Man debuted in the MCU via 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Tom Holland stars as the titular hero alongside a supporting cast that includes Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, and Robert Downey Jr.
Spider-Man: Homecoming currently among most watched movies on HBO Max
As of February 9, 2026, Spider-Man: Homecoming is the #3 movie on HBO Max according to streaming analytics website FlixPatrol. It is also in the top 10 list of most-watched movies on the streaming service in several South American markets. These include Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Haiti, and Mexico, where it’s either the #5, #4, or #3 movie.
As the #3 movie in the US, the film is outranked by Death of a Unicorn, which is #2, and M3GAN 2.0, which is #1. Notably, the film was reportedly the #1 movie on HBO Max a few days earlier.
The Spider-Man film currently outranks Woman of the Hour (#4), I Know What You Did Last Summer (#5), Migration (#6), The Departed (#7), Click (#8), Sunshine (#9), and Sinners (#10).
Spider-Man: Homecoming became a box office success at the time of its release. It grossed an estimated $880 million worldwide. The film’s success spawned two sequels — Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Both films became huge box office successes as well. The former became the first Spider-Man film to cross the $1 billion-dollar mark.
The film has received impressive scores on review aggregator websites. It boasts a certified fresh critical score of 92% and a robust 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the movie holds a “generally favorable” Metascore and user score of 73 and 7.4, respectively.
Spider-Man: Homecoming’s story takes place after Captain America: Civil War. It follows Peter Parker balancing his heroics as Spider-Man with his high school duties. Eager to become an Avenger and prove himself to Iron Man, he goes on a risky mission against his mentor’s warnings. Flying solo, he must stop arms dealer Adrian Toomes from selling weapons powered by alien technology on the black market.
