Henry Cavill’s 2018 crime thriller movie has surged in popularity on streaming, ranking among the most-watched titles on Paramount+. Despite receiving largely negative reviews upon its debut, Night Hunter has climbed streaming charts in late December. This hints at renewed audience interest and a turnaround in its post-debut performance.

Night Hunter continues to dominate on Paramount+

Night Hunter, featuring Henry Cavill, has become one of Paramount+’s most-watched titles, maintaining a strong presence on the platform’s charts in late December.

As of December 25, 2025, the crime thriller ranked within the top five most-streamed movies on the service, with a global score of 108 (via Flix Patrol). This reflects a sharp increase in viewership years after its initial release.

The 2018 movie features Cavill as Detective Walter Marshall, a police officer leading a task force investigating a series of abductions connected to an online predator. The investigation takes an unexpected turn when the suspected perpetrator, Simon Stulls, is arrested early in the case.

However, it raises concerns that the scope of Simon’s crimes may be far larger than initially believed. As the inquiry unfolds, Marshall and his team enter a complex psychological battle while pursuing additional leads related to the case.

The movie’s cast also includes Ben Kingsley as Michael Cooper, Alexandra Daddario as Rachel Chase, Stanley Tucci as Commissioner Harper, and Brendan Fletcher as Simon Stulls, among others. Directed and written by David Raymond, Night Hunter has a runtime of 98 minutes.

Despite its current streaming performance, Night Hunter struggled upon release. The film debuted directly on video-on-demand in 2018 and failed to gain significant attention at the time, even with a high-profile ensemble cast. Moreover, the critical response was largely negative.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 14 percent critics’ Tomatometer score based on 37 reviews, while the Popcornmeter score has been slightly more favorable at 51 percent. Keith Garlington of Keith & the Movies wrote, “It has an interesting idea which it toys with but never explores. Instead, Night Hunter embraces things other movies have done better, making it come across as unoriginal and predictable.”
