Taylor Momsen has built a new identity far away from Hollywood sets, and she’s not looking back anytime soon. Once a familiar face on TV and in family films, the singer-songwriter now feels firmly rooted in music via her band, The Preety Reckless. Speaking candidly at a recent industry event, Momsen opened up about whether acting still fits into her life.
Taylor Momsen discusses if she will ever act again
Taylor Momsen didn’t dodge the question when it came up at Steven Tyler’s seventh annual Jam for Janie Grammy viewing party on February 1. When asked in an interview with PEOPLE if acting might ever be back on the table, she was blunt, she admitted she’s “learned” not to say “never,” but made it clear that returning to acting just isn’t something she’s interested in anymore.
Even the idea of revisiting old projects doesn’t seem tempting. When talk of reviving an old role surfaced, Momsen shut that down fast. She joked that she’s good where she is and would be “touring with AC/DC.” Momsen has also been open about why she cares for music more than acting. She’s said she’s having a “good time in life” and genuinely loves creating music.
Acting, to her, was more of a childhood chapter, while music has always been something she chose for herself. There’s no character to hide behind, just her, her voice, and her truth. Momsen values creative control, preferring to call the shots and write her own story through songs. “I don’t like being someone’s pawn. I like being in charge. I like writing the script. I like writing songs. That’s everything,” she explained.
That said, her acting past is still iconic. She was only five when she played Cindy Lou Who alongside Jim Carrey in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Later, she became a pop-culture staple as Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl, sticking around from 2007 until 2010 and reappearing for the 2012 finale.
