Shortly after the release of Wicked: For Good, Glinda is getting her own spinoff novel from author Gregory Maguire. Ariana Grande-Butera played the role in the two films to great acclaim. Now, fans of the franchise will get a new treat with this spinoff novel, which will drop on September 29, 2026.

Glinda to get a novel spin-off about childhood

Titled Galinda: A Charmed Childhood, the new spin-off novel from Gregory Maguire will explore Galinda’s life before she came to Shiz University and met Elphaba, which changed her life completely. It will serve as a sister book to Elphie: A Wicked Childhood, the best-selling novel from Maguire that follows Elphaba’s childhood.

Harper Collins announced on Instagram. “In this brand-new sister volume to Elphie, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wicked Gregory Maguire shares the eagerly awaited origin story of Galinda, the pink-clad, effervescent, and popular favorite character,” the post read.

The post also confirmed that a deluxe limited edition hardcover “featuring stenciled edges, designed endpapers, and more” is available for pre-order.

The official synopsis for the Wicked: For Good spinoff novel reads, “Who was Glinda the Good Witch before she floated down in her bubble to greet Dorothy? Who was Glinda before she became Elphaba Thropp’s magnetic and popular roommate at Shiz University? Well, before then, she was Galinda. With a “ga.” Galinda reveals the girl behind the bubbly, shallow cliché—offering fans of Wicked their first richer glimpse into the life of a beloved and iconic character.”

Gregory Maguire previously wrote Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West in 1995, which became the inspiration for the musical. He has dabbled in this universe often since.

Apart from the novel announcement, there are also talks of a new movie set in the Wicked universe. But nothing is official about the movie development yet.

Wicked: For Good is currently playing in theatres.
